Beginning his career as a sea-going engineer, Robert worked for Australian shipping companies for 23 years. During this period he rapidly advanced to the senior position of Chief Engineer where he earned an industry-wide reputation for both his technical ability and pragmatic approach to leadership.
On coming ashore his first-hand experience with various engine types was extended in his role as NSW Service Manager for ASP Ship Management. There, through supervising maintenance work on ships, he became very familiar with the MAN B & W Diesel Technical Support Service available within Australia, later joining MAN B & W in 1994 as a Superintendent Engineer.
In 2000 Robert moved with MAN and was an integral part of the successful launch of MAN Diesel in Australia, originally as a Superintendent Engineer, then National Service Manager, and now General Manager for Diesel Service.
Through attention to detail, commitment, and technical expertise that is supported by unparalleled training, Robert's service team continually wins the respect and confidence of MAN Diesel & Turbo clients. Reliable servicing is one thing, but a key objective for Robert is in looking for ways to improve clients' systems. “I get great satisfaction from looking at ways that we can add more value to our clients businesses." Our recent success story was to change a failed 12 Cylinder Ruston RK270 MkI engine frame to accommodate more recent 12 Cylinder MkII in the South Pacific Power Station. We recently welcomed to Australasia two Carnival Cruise Line Vessels with a third arriving November 2010. Further success was to continue servicing of RailCorp XPT 12 VP185 engines.
With extensive experience across marine, traction and power stations, both diesel and gas, Robert has successfully supervised the rehabilitation of engines and the associated plant throughout Australasia and the South Pacific.
Sailing is in Robert's blood. He's a regular competitor in inshore and offshore racing in the east coast of Australia.
