MAN HYDROGEN - DIESEL DUAL FUEL MARINE ENGINES ARE HERE

With the MAN D2862 Hydrogen Dual Fuel Engine you can reduce the emissions while at the same time benefiting from maximum operating reliability you are used to from MAN diesel engines.
The MAN D2862 Hydrogen Dual Fuel engine is a joint project with CMB/CMB. TECH and Windcat Workboats.

MAN D2862 H2 DUAL FUEL

More Hydrogen. Less Diesel. Less CO2 Emissions

The base of the MAN D2862 Dual Fuel engine is a proven V12 marine diesel engine. In that, hydrogen is introduced into the charge air via an adapter and is added to the combustion cycle. The combustion process is thereby started according to the diesel principle, which requires the injection of approx. 5% of diesel fuel. The diesel fuel common rail injection parameters have been optimised here for dual fuel operation.

MAN Engines has long-standing experience in the development of fuel-saving and reliable diesel engines, including for work boats. Building on this experience, the best consumption values in dual fuel operation could be achieved and ensure the same operating behaviour as displayed by diesel operation at full load.

" What's special about the technology on MAN Engines is that we use a conventional
diesel engine, which doesn't need to be optimised for hydrogen."

MORE FLEXIBILITY. MORE SUSTAINABILITY

Customer benefits

A quick look...

How it works

In a type of pretreatment, a precisely measured quantity of hydrogen is added to the charge air.
This mixture of hydrogen and air is then ignited in the combustion chamber of the cylinders using the injected diesel fuel.

Depending on the operating point of the engine, only a very small amount of diesel fuel is required.

For this reason, significantly less CO2 occurs in the exhaust gas in dual fuel mode.
With a typical collective daily load of a working boat, CO2 emissions can be expected to be around 50% lower.
Particulate and nitrogen oxide emissions can also be reduced.

THE HYDROCAT 48 PROJECT

The Hydrocat is the first hydrogen-powered CTV whose technology reduces more than 50% of its traditional fuel usage. Its propulsion: two MAN D2862 dual-fuel engines.

Hydrogen powered crew transfer vessel already in operation

The world’s first hydrogen powered crew transfer vessel, Hydrocat 48 features dual-fuel engines supplied by MAN Engines that are retrofitted by CMB.TECH with a hydrogen injection system.

The Hydrocat is a further “green development” based on an already very fuel efficient and high performing Windcat MK3.5 hull design.
The Hydrocat is a vessel that excels in vessel performance, safety and comfort.
In addition, noise levels have been reduced to extremely low values (65 dB) at maximum speed for extra comfort by separating the passenger area from the main structure.
The Hydrocat is numbered 48 because it follows on from the series of vessels of the Windcat MK3.5.
